RHA, ACE Board discuss plans for 2012 Boxer Ball

With spring term coming to a close and summer less than a couple weeks away, Pacific’s RHA and ACE Board will be putting on the annual Boxer Ball on Friday, May 4 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Marry the Night is this year’s theme and ACE Board’s Joe Plaughter will be the DJ, under his DJ name “Shoeless Joe.”

The Boxer Ball will be held in the U.C. dining hall, moving upstairs from the MPR for temperature and security issues. One of the most difficult issues about the planning process for RHA member Allycia Shackelford was nailing down a location, going from the original idea of the Field House to the dining hall which she said will hopefully improve the temperature for people dancing.

“Not to worry, because you won’t recognize the U.C. when we’re done with it,” said Shackelford.

Another change to the Boxer Ball from last year is a charge to get in. The first 50 people, though, will get in free. In addition, a larger sound system than Pacific’s campus has had in a while will be rented for the dance. Four new lasers, a disco ball and other effect lighting will be brought in as well.

Both Plaughter and Shackelford mentioned this year’s Boxer Ball will be a couple notches above past dances at Pacific.

Shackelford said that set-up for the dance will start at 2 p.m. that day and there will be a Boxer barbeque in the quad for a pre-dance fueling during that time.

“And to bust out what we think will be a very classy decoration scheme,” said Shackelford.

The hall councils will also be helping out during the dance. They will be assisting with set up and clean up.

If students have song requests, Plaughter said to put a link on the Pacific Facebook event page.
