Over winter break, Dec. 18 to be exact, the new Star Wars movie was released to critical acclaim.

As of this review, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is ranked as the number one movie domestically and as number two globally (trailing James Cameron’s movie “Avatar”).

If you have not seen this movie yet, I hope you decide to even if you are not a Star Wars fan.

Being a part of this cultural milestone should be reason enough. The new story follows Stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and Scavenger Rey (Daisey Ridley).

As they come together through the droid BB-8, they go on a quest to search for Luke Skywalker who has been lost.

While much of the movie uses lines that fit into the context of the story, they are also supposed to be metaphors for what happened to the Star Wars franchise since its beginning.

The first line of the movie by legendary character Max Von Sydows’ opens with, “This will begin to make things right.”

His line reassures the audience that this movie will be better than the prequels.

Even the main plot line of finding Luke Skywalker seems to be the movies way of telling you, we (the filmmakers) are looking for the magic of the original trilogy many fans suggest was lost with the prequels.

And this movie succeeds in that regard.

However, while this movie

resides in my top three favorite Star Wars movies alongside Episodes V and III, like other Star Wars movies, it is far from perfect.

While Star Wars is a classic, there are still flaws in almost every movie.

This movie, I believe, was the least impressive of all the movies.

Its lack of familiarity with planets and aliens (all of which were new) are hard to recognize and place within the Star Wars universe.

While my gripes with this movie are ultimately small, I do believe they are worth mentioning.

Overall, this is a milestone movie that has reached critical and monetary success.

“The Force Awakens” provides everyone with a new hope that the future Star Wars movies will become classics in their own time as well as being able to stand alongside other movies in pop culture history pop culture history.
