The University Center Open Mic is one of the few chances for the students of Pacific to forget about the burdens of their constant classes and bustling social life. Constant work on part of the ACE Board during the entire week led up to their first Open Mic Night of the semester. The Open Mic was defined by its drastic diversity of sound. American Idol Season 14 finalist Rayvon Owens was the headlining act of the night.
“Sometimes you just gotta do it, just dive in,” said Owens of his touring ritual. He explained that his favorite part of touring is helping people shed their anxieties with his music. Owens tours to several colleges and says that allowing students a break from their work is a highlight of touring.
“I love seeing kids break out of their shells and forget all about their school and social problems and just get down for an hour or two,” said Owens. “It’s one of the greatest feelings.”
