Short-term study abroad offers travel, not commitment

Pacific offers short term study abroad programs that allow students to experience another culture without having to leave for a semester or a year. During winter term and summer term, Pacific offers a wide range of classes for all students.

Students must take a fall travel prep course before studying abroad over winter term. Students enrolled in the 2020 winter term study abroad will be headed to Hawaii, Greece, Utah, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Trinidad. Sophomore Grant McLuskie is attending the Fundamentals of International Surfing in Costa Rica this winter term.

“I chose this trip because I wanted to learn about another culture, and of course surf,” McLuskie said. The course also has an emphasis on exercise science, which is McLuskie’s major.

The destinations for summer 2020 are just as diverse. This summer, students have the opportunity to travel to Spain, Romania, Namibia, and Costa Rica.

The Spain travel course focuses on writing, the Romania course teams up with Habitat for Humanity, the Namibia course emphasizes public health, and the Costa Rica course focuses on service-learning.

Sophomore Kayla Sgobba is registering for the Romania trip. Kayla wants to be a part of this trip because she comes from European descent.

“I have always wanted to travel to Europe,” she said. “I am also interested in the fact that the course works with Habitat for Humanity.”

Pacific’s short term study abroad program is a great way to get to travel without a major commitment. Students will be able to register for spring short term prep class when registration opens.
