Pacific University’s Music Department has a full schedule for fall concert events this year and will be showcasing performances from the jazz band, orchestra, symphonic band and choir groups.

Pacific’s Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Michael Burch-Pesses, will be performing Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m.

The Orchestral Concert, directed by Dr. Dijana Ihas, will be performing Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. The orchestra band will be playing music arrangements from both “West Side Story” and “Romeo and Juliet.”

The Holiday Concert will be taking place Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include performances by the chamber singers, concert choir, symphonic band and Pacific’s two Acappella groups: Splendid Audacity and Voce Femme.

“It’s a great time for students to come and kind of get into the spirit of the holidays,” Conductor of the Chamber Singers Dr. Scott Toumi said.

There will be an array of holiday songs performed, as well as some sing-along pieces for the audience to join in on.

The Symphonic Band Concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3:00 p.m. The symphonic band, directed by Dr. Burch-Pesses, is currently the largest it has been in many years, with almost 80 student performers.

“We’re only doing half a program; we’re hosting the band from Liberty High School to play the first part of the program,” said Dr. Burch-Pesses.

The beginning of the concert will feature the Liberty High School band, the second part will feature Pacific’s band, and the last couple arrangements will be performed by both bands together.

“Most of our students performing in the concerts are not music majors, so our faculty from outside the music department should come and see what their majors are doing in terms of music,” said Dr. Burch-Pesses.

Everyone is welcome to attend the concerts this fall, which will all be held in McCready Hall in Taylor-Meade.
