Committee seeks improved communication among clubs

An array of clubs and organizations give back to the university by offering fun and creative events that bring Pacific students together. Yet, campus groups have had difficulty communicating with one another and have in some cases planned multiple events on the same day or at the same time. Student Senate vice president of communications and events Svea Larson was fed up with the lack of correspondence on campus and implemented the Communications Committee.

The committee is designed to help clubs and organizations better communicate with one another. Larson said the committee will help raise attendance rates at events by increasing advertising and promote collaboration between groups on campus to reach more students.

“The purpose of the committee is to help bridge the gap between organizations. We want to create better understanding between what students, faculty and staff want and need,” said Larson.

The groups currently involved in the communications committee are Student Senate, ACE Board, Greek Senate, Residence Hall Association and The Pacific Index. They hope to have more groups join.

The goal of the group is to establish a concrete platform and create building blocks for next year said Larson. Currently, the group is working on raising sexual assault awareness by having the stickers on stall doors updated and replaced. They are also researching which methods work best to advertise events for students such as Facebook, email or flyers hung up around campus.

For next year, the committee hopes to have a separate calendar created for the Pacific website with only upcoming events hosted by campus clubs and organizations.

The committee is currently meeting bi-weekly and is open to outside suggestions. Contact Larson at lars6439@pacificu.edu.

“We are open to suggestions from students who have good insight and hear stories of how students in the past have successfully promoted events,” said Larson.
