Pacific University Men’s and Women’s Golf teams competed in the Willamette Valley Cup last weekend, with the women placing third while the men finished just behind in fifth.

On Saturday, March 16, the Boxers shot an opening round of 382 (+94) which put them in third place behind the leading Corban University. Individually, Pacific was lead by Hannah Thornburg, who is tied for 11th after posting a 92. A stroke behind Thornburg was Briana Finau, who shot a 93 followed by Janie Kiyokawa, who recorded a 94. Morgan Couch placed 19th after shooting a 103 and Danieca Muraoka sat 22nd after a 119 to round out the Pacific lineup.

To finish on Sunday, the Boxers wrapped up the tournament, shooting a 413 for a two-day, 36-hole total of 795. Corban won the team title with a 664. Pacific had two golfers finish in the top 15, those being Thornburg and Kiyokawa. Finishing third was the highest placing for the Boxers so far this season. Their next invationtal is April 6, being held at Whitworth University.

The men’s leading golfer this past Saturday was Braden Ash in 13th place with a score of 77 and 11 pars in his round. The Boxers closed the tournament shooting a 324 for a 36-hole total of 645. Host Willamette University took home the team title by 28 strokes with a score of 573.

Pacific was led by Zach Rodriguez, who moved into the top 10 with a final round of 76 for a 36-hole total of 154 (+10, 78-76) to finish. Ash was 23rd with a 163, Bryce Krautstrunk was 25th with a 165 and Kaylan Ha was a stroke behind with a 166. Matthew Brandt tied for 31st with a 174 and as an individual Christian Aguilana recorded a 178 to finish 33rd. The next tournament for the mens Boxers is the Northwest Conference Spring Classic hosted by Pacific Lutheran University, April 13-14 at the Olympia Country Club in Olympia, Wash.
