Pacific’s Handball Team was founded in 1977 and began its involvement with the Collegiate National Championships in 1981.

Since then, the Boxers have appeared in 38 consecutive Nationals winning over two dozen individual national championships.

The Boxers are a national powerhouse in handball. In 2013, Pacific won the combined men’s and women’s national team championship at Arizona State, repeating again in 2014 at North Carolina State. The 2015 Boxer team finished fourth overall with women’s and men’s doubles teams winning respective championships and one player winning both singles and doubles titles, a Boxer first.

The team will be preparing for the 2016 Collegiate Championships at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in February. Many students have never played handball before attending Pacific, however, their outstanding athleticism allowed for quick adaptation to the sport and have given the Pacific team great leadership and brilliant play for more than three decades.

There is always plenty of action for handball players at Pacific University. The team has regularly scheduled practices from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Two invitational tournaments will be played on campus at the newly renovated courts and numerous trips. There will also be tournaments around the state and the northwest from September to May.
Boxer handball is generously funded by the Athletic Department and the Alten Handball Foundation for tournament travel and participation, equipment, uniforms, and video analysis and coaching.
Additionally, the new 2015 head coach, David Steinberg, is a certified personal trainer specializing in performance enhancement, endurance, and balance control.

If you have a strong desire for sports competition and want to actually play instead of sit on the bench, handball is a smart choice. If you compete in other sports, handball will make you an even better athlete in the off-season.

Want to join this fine group of collegiate athletes? Do you want to make your mark at one of the premiere colleges sponsoring handball?

If so, contact Head Coach David Steinberg: stei1707@pacificu.edu or djsteinb@easystreet.net

You can also enroll in handball class, HPER-124 to learn more.

Also be on the look out for the Beat the Coach: Handball event for students to compete against the Steinberg and Steele on October 16. There will be monetary prizes in the form of gift cards.
