With the Women’s Basketball Team’s record of 12-10 and sixth place in conference, the Boxers have made some good strides and made building moments with their Northwest Conference opponents.
“This season has been completely different than any season yet here at Pacific,” said head coach Sharon Rissmiller.
The senior athletes Erica Schultz, Kandice McArthur and Brittney Anderson provided good leadership for the team this year, said Rissmiller.
“Each senior has a different role on this team and each have been great for us this year,” Rissmiller said.
McArthur’s role on this team has been as the consistent three-point shooter.
According to Rissmiller, “Kandice has been spot-on and can shoot daggers.”
Anderson and Schultz are co-captains on the team. According to Rissmiller, Anderson is more of a consistent player on the team, with her rebounding and solid defense in the paint.
Anderson is someone that the team can count on to score anywhere from five to 10 points every game.
Schultz is one of the more “dynamic” players on the team.
“She can put the ball in the hole and score a lot of points, which is what we need offensively as a team,” said Rissmiller.
Schultz is also a tough defender and consistently has blocked shots and steals for the team.
Another big player for the Boxers is junior Paige Jensen. Last Saturday, Feb. 4 against the Whitworth Pirates, she had a huge game with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Jensen is a starter for the Boxers in the forward position and is consistent with her numbers in scoring points and grabbing boards.
The coaching staff brought on some new talent this season with the additions of five freshman and two junior college players.
“Within our new freshmen, we have a couple shooting guards that can shoot pretty consistently night in and night out for us,” said Rissmiller. “Which has big for us this season.”
As for the two junior college transfers, juniors Erica Colter and Heather Hitch have been big assets to the team.
Colter is a starting point guard for the Boxers and with her crafty coordination skills she has contributed significantly to the team, said Rissmiller.
“Hitch comes off the bench for us and gives us that toughness we need down in the paint,” said Rissmiller.
The season comes to an end for the Boxers this Friday, Feb. 17.
They will play against Pacific Lutheran and their season will conclude Saturday, Feb. 18 against Lewis & Clark at 6 p.m. in the Stoller Athletic Center.
