The women’s soccer team finished its season with a total of 7 wins, 5 losses and 4 ties.
“We’ve had our ups and downs,” said Head Coach Morgan Crabtree, “but I think we are peaking at the right time. We have seen a lot of improvements from last year.”
The team had a good anticipation of the competition for this season and thoroughly prepared. The first half of the season the team was a little inconsistent, but through the second half they became stronger and more reliable as a team.
According to Crabtree, there was an even distribution of responsibility throughout the team on the field. The girls played off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses to form a very strong and united team.
Crabtree stated that there isn’t one play where there were only one or two girls dominating the field. They all worked together to get the job done.
One of the team’s goals for this season was to be one of the top three teams in the Northwest Conference.
One of the team captains, senior Teri Shigeno, had high expectations for the season because of the success the team had last year. The women only had one loss in the second half and she said she feels that is a great accomplishment for her team. Some of the girls also set new records, and tied with old ones.
Seven of the players are graduating, leaving behind a good legacy.
“Next year will be a building year,” said Shigeno. “There was a large freshman class present on the team this season that got a good amount of playing time and these girls, combined with the upperclassmen, should promise a very effective and dynamic team.”
Shigeno said she, along with the other seniors, are leaving the program on the right foot. She said the team is in a good position to continue to build to the top of the conference.
She also said that the most important thing to her this year was the camaraderie of the team and good memories with the girls and coaches.
Shigeno feels that next year’s team will be in good hands with Crabtree and Assistant Head Coach Dane Christian leading the way.
