The golf season for the men’s and women’s team came to an end this past weekend.
The Boxers played April 22 and 23 at the Northwest Conference Championships at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland, Wash.
The women’s golf team ended ranked fifth in the Northwest Conference while the men’s golf team finished fourth in the NWC.
Head coach of both the men’s and women’s teams Richard Warren said the women’s team faced many challenges this year.
The season started with eight women and dwindled down to four after individuals left the school and golf program or because of injuries. Warren said the ladies worked hard despite the challenges they faced and remained committed.
Senior Valerie Kltamori of the women’s golf team will play in another sanctioned NCAA tournament with the conclusion of the Northwest Conference tournaments.
Warren said on the men’s end he expected them to do better than fourth this year. He said that although they worked hard, they fell short of his expectations.
He said the men’s team just didn’t do well enough in the major tournaments.
Despite this, Warren said that the players truly enjoyed themselves and took the results of each tournament in stride.
According to Warren, the most important thing was that the golfers had fun and enjoyed golfing and being with their teammates.
Senior Max Bonk of the men’s golf team led the team with a second place finish at the Northwest Conference Championships at Columbia Point Golf Course.
Bonk has yet to find out if he has qualified for the national tournament.
Bonk plans on playing professionally when he finishes school. Warren believes that Bonk is capable of doing just that with the drive and skill he has.
With the conclusion of the season, Warren said that both the teams had a good time and really grew together as players and teammates.
He believes that next year the team will have to do some rebuilding because they are losing quite a few seniors but they will still be successful.
