Thoughts From a First Time Voter

This year’s presidential election is going to be unprecedented. There will be more youth voters than ever, and many first time voters. I’m one of those first time voters. I was born about 8 days too late to vote in the 2016 election. It’s not exactly the best year to be a first time voter, that is, considering that the choices for president are not ideal. As of right now, it looks like Joe Biden will be the democratic nominee, which means in November, it will be a race between Biden and Trump. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m not happy about having to choose between a centrist who wants everything to return to normal, and a republican who in his first term has turned the United States into a laughing stock. The one good candidate, Sanders, was the only candidate that was fighting for the everyday American with strong stances on prison reform, universal healthcare, workers rights, and federally legal cannabis, was completely screwed over by the media and the DNC. It’s not fair to first time voters. I hate that we have to choose the lesser of two evils, that’s not what the election should be about. We had a promising candidate, but he’s gone now.

The coronavirus is only making this situation more complicated. Many areas are doing mail in votes only because of the virus, and the USPS is on the verge of going bankrupt. The potential for vote rigging in the election and primaries are way higher than they’ve ever been. With the fairly credible information we have on the 2016 election and possible Russian interference, I’m nervous. Everyone should be nervous.

Not to mention the very credible sexual assault allegations against Biden. If he does become the nominee that means we’ll all have to choose which sexual predator we want to lead our nation. This isn’t normal, and we can’t normalize these things. I’m confused, and nervous, and most of all angry. I’m not looking forward to the upcoming election, no one should be, especially first time voters. It’s time we all got angry at what’s going on in this country.
