Pacific faculty members recall late co-worker, Bevin McCarthy

It is with great sadness we report on the passing of Pacific University staff member Bevin McCarthy. McCarthy served many roles here at Pacific and did so with joy, compassion, and love.

She served as assistant director of the Center of Civic Engagement for five years, as interim director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and also held a large role in the Social Justice Retreat planning committee.

Her work recently resulted in her receiving the university’s 2017 Diversity & Justice Award, which, “Recognizes a faculty or staff member whose work creates a diverse and sustainable community that inspires students to pursue justice in our world, and embraces a rich diversity of ideas, peoples, and cultures, with an emphasis on public service within the global community,” President Lesley Hallick said in an email.

Our staff would like to offer our admiration and appreciation for McCarthy and her work, our deepest condolences to her many loved ones and our open hearts to students who feel the impact of this loss.

We would like to reiterate President Hallick’s message, reminding Pacific faculty and staff that support is available through the Employee Assistance Program at Cascade Centers. Support for students can be found at the Student Counseling Center or with University Chaplain Rev. Dr. Chuck Currie.
