The Pacific University athletic department has approved the plans to install a new turf field at Hanson Stadium this summer. The current turf was installed back in 2007 and is now in its 10th year of its 8-10 year lifespan.
Athletic Director Ken Schumann said the current turf was tested for safety at the beginning of the 2016 school year and the test results showed the field was safe enough to last the 2016-17 school year.
“The field is at the end of its life,” Schumann said. “We were able to get 10 years out of that field and I feel pretty good about that with the amount of use that it gets.”
The current field is host to four sports teams at Pacific including men’s and women’s soccer, football and lacrosse. With those teams using the field, the turf was due for an upgrade that Schumann and the athletic department are happy to provide. “The project has officially been approved and we are moving forward with it,” Schumann said.
“It’ll be a summer project and we expect it to be complete by the end of June.”
