The Northwest Conference is grieving after the death of Linfield College Special Teams football player Parker Moore, who was stabbed to death at a 7-Eleven Nov. 15 following the Linfield and Pacific championship game.

Moore, 20, was attacked by 33-year-old Joventino Bermudez Arenas at approximately 11 p.m. Arenas was later shot by police and later died.

Moore was Life Flighted to Oregon Health and Science University where he died. Call records from 9-1-1 said that Moore was at the cash register when the attack occurred. The attacker had no intentions of robbing the store or Moore.

According to the Oregonian, Capt. Tim Svenson of the Sheriff’s Office said there is currently no connection between the two and detectives are still trying to piece the situation together.

Moore was a resident assistant and business management major at Linfield.

Pacific Athletic Department and head football coach Keith Buckley said he knew Moore personally when he visited Pacific for a recruiting trip.

The football department was excited at the prospect of having him.

“Parker was an incredible kid,” Buckley said. “We were all very lucky to know him.”

To reach out to Linfield, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, SAAC, made a large banner in Moore’s memory and extended the offer to Pacific students to sign it and write their sympathies.

Buckley said the NWC is a very close-knit community because most athletes visit multiple schools and the majority of athletes competed against each other in high school, so a loss like Moore’s is felt by the whole conference.

“This is a terrible tragedy that effects every school and every athlete,” Buckley said. “But it speaks volumes towards the integrity and care felt within the conference here.”

According to the Oregonian, Linfield will be holding a celebration of life ceremony today, Nov. 20 at the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
