The NOOK is now available for purchase at the Pacific University Bookstore. This is the first time any type of e-reader has been for sale at the university’s Barnes & Noble store.

“Many members of the campus and Forest Grove communities have been asking for NOOK products and services for some time now and we are thrilled to finally be able to provide them with Barnes & Noble’s award-winning NOOK devices,” said a company representative.

The university bookstore carries four different NOOK devices, which are on display and available to try. The bookstore, however, does not currently have any NOOK accessories for sale. Those looking to buy the accessories will have to do so online or at a Barnes & Noble community store.

The NOOK Simple Touch, priced at $99, provides features such as Best-Text, which provides ultra crisp text that makes the reading experience similar to a paper book; as well as the breakthrough E-Ink display that is 25 percent faster than previous models. This model is incredibly light and has a battery life that allows up to two months of reading time on a single charge.

The NOOK Color, priced at $169, has the a VividView 7” touch screen and has access to more than 2.5 million books, magazines and interactive kids’ books. Also available with this device is NOOK Comics, which includes the largest collection of Marvel graphic novels. Other features include email, web, video and the ability to run popular apps like Angry Birds and Pandora.

The NOOK Tablet has the same features as the NOOK Color, plus it comes pre-loaded with Netflix and HuluPlus. The tablet’s breakthrough battery life allows for 11.5 hours of reading time, or nine hours of video viewing. It also offers built-in email, video streaming and lightning-fast web browsing. The NOOK Tablet comes in both 8GB and 16GB, priced at $199 and $249 respectively.

Faculty and staff are able to apply their bookstore discount to all NOOK devices.

“By offering NOOKs, which have been universally hailed as the best and most technologically sophisticated reading devices on the market, we are further establishing the campus bookstore as a forward-looking center of retail experience that offers outstanding products and services,” said a Barnes & Noble representative. “NOOKs will help drive foot traffic in the store not only from members of the campus community, but from Forest Grove community members as well.”
